UnitiQute freezes
Posted by: gsh on 16 December 2010
Hi,
while playing iRadio the Qute freezes, i.e. at some point it refuses any communication with remote, logo, n-Stream. iRadio continues playing. After power off/on iRadio starts to play where it was stopped but the Qute still does not accept any commands. Next I switched it off, unplugged the ethernet connection to NAS and WLAN, switched Qute on again, reactivated network and Qute could be controlled via all means available.
I'm wondering whether n-Stream causes the problems. We have 2 iPhones (3G and 4) running n-Stream.
Has anyone experienced something similar?

Gottfried you are not alone! Mine has frozen on 3 occasions whilst playing iRadio but I cannot remember if I was using nStream or the remote at the time. When it does freeze neither the iPhone or the remote will release it. I am wireless.
Will pay more attention the next time it happens. Any particular station? Mine always seems to be (from what I remember) AVRO Klassiek or is it AVRO Klassiek film?
Regards
Neil

Neil,
it occurs with different radio stations. Would be very strange otherwise. Latest experience: iRadio stopped playing too! Only iPhone 3G in house but not used. As far as I understand iPhone 3G does not support running apps in background. So I tend to think its innocent.

I had the same experience (once) but with a Uniti. I was also playing iRadio and suddenly it did not react on
the remote control and the buttons on the Uniti, but iRadio was still playing. After switching it on an off two or three times, the Uniti did react again.

Please update to n-stream new version AND ensure you are running the latest version of iOS 4.2

Updated early in the morning. iOS is latest version (4.2.1). Let's see what the weekend will show.
BTW: n-Stream is now in German. Don't exactly like it as fields are to small to display texts completely. Switched off "Use server language" and restarted n-Stream. GUI did not change. So what does is this setting for?

Same problem here with a Uniti. Only one iRadio station was concerned. Turning off and on several times did not solve the problem. We are currently listening to the said station via DAB.
An issue related to firmware 3.0 ?
PS: I do not own or use any iXxx-whatsoever product.

As I said before the interface on the Uniti itself did not respond when the problem occurred. The Uniti has firmware 3.0.

I have been advised to reset the device to factory defaults, which, for the moment, solved the problem. Time-consuming, but hopefully effective.

Just got a brand new Uniti with version 3.0 software -froze on day 2 (both the remote and all the buttons on the uniti itself did not work whilst a radio station was playing). Switched it off and back on again and all seems ok now.

I had the same freezing problem on my Uniti a few days after I bought it, only a month ago. My software version is 3.something
I thought it was just a random glitch but since other people have experienced the same problem I am becoming a little concerned.
My Uniti was non-responsive to both remote and buttons on the front panel, until I switched it off and on again. So the remote itself was not at fault.
I was listening to iRadio at the time when it happened.

Is this a firmware problem? Any news from those who overlook us?

Precise background to when my uniti froze:- At the time I checked the troubleshooting guide on the naim website and it says that if your remote doesn't work its possible some low energy light sources can interfere with the remote operation. There was actually a panasonic low energy lamp shining directly at the player at the time I was playing the iradio so whether this was the cause I dont know as the buttons on the player had also frozen. Anyway I switched off/on and moved the lamp and so far so good, so anyone with this problem -it might be worth just checking if you have a lamp shining directly onto the unit?...

No there was no source of light, heat or any IR interference around.
The problem was the buttons on front panel became non-responsive too, so most definitely it was the fault with Uniti and not with remote

Hi,
it is now more than a week ago that I updated n-Stream: UnitiQute works flawlessly since then!

Mine locked yesterday and the day before. Always on the same channel/preset. I'm sure this will get sorted though.
