Very nice to listen to, relaxed and thoughtful.

quote:A stunningly sophisticated leap into modern musical textures, I'm Your Man re-establishes Leonard Cohen's mastery. Against a backdrop of keyboards and propulsive rhythms, Cohen surveys the global landscape with a precise, unflinching eye: the opening "First We Take Manhattan" is an ominous fantasy of commercial success bundled in crypto-fascist imagery, while the remarkable "Everybody Knows" is a cynical catalog of the land mines littering the surface of love in the age of AIDS. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide

Well today we had a large selection of music, that included:-
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia (V & CD)
Blackfield - Blackfield II (CD)
Kraftwerk - Tour De France (V)
Blur - Thinktank (V)
Prodigy - The Fat of the Land (CD)
Alison Krauss and Union Station - Live (V)
I'm sorry that's all the old cranium can remember, I'm sure Julian or John will fill in the blanks.
Thanks to Julian for the assistance whilst I fitted the earthed lead to my LP12, plus he clean up the platter and belt, and applied the final 1/4 or so to torque up the SBL drivers.
Thanks to to John (fixedwheel) for coming over too, an enjoyable day, rounded off by a nice curry (or omelet).

BWV 542. The Prelude and Fugue in G minor.
First by Walcha in 1950 and then MC Alian in the early 90s, and now the old Walcha recording again. You know? Walcha at a slight more magesterial lower octane reading has the palm!
Sometimes a perforemer can drive too much and to listen to both side by side is a sort of of object lesson. Pros for each are:-
Walcha: Patience, and a certain objective [and Mondrianesque] inevitability.
Alain: Visceral immediacy, combined with that wonderous feminine flexiblility of line that avoids sentimentality.
Cons:
Walcha's recording is not technically as good!
Alain is more indulgent. "Pace" that one man's fish is another's poison ...
Both inform at the highest level of music making ...

Seeing as you are listening to this and I know you enjoy Death Cab For Cutie, consider adding the Farrar/Gibbard "One Fast Move Or I'm Gone: Music From Kerouac's Big Sur" album to your list of future purchases. Lots of pedal steel, and the unique vocal styles of each artist. Most enjoyable.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the suggestion. I will look to pick it up soon. The artists and material sound very interesting.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Best regards,
Patrick
