This has turned out to be quite a curious disc. The Mozart sonata that starts the disc is almost blown out of its structure, a fiery, volatile account that may not be very authentic, but is executed to perfection. Then a more conventional reading of Berg's Op.1, followed by Liszt and some of Bartok's most accessible music.
Her account of the Liszt sonata in b minor I am in two minds about. On the one hand, she has a marvelous grasp of the long lines and structure, and displays some real fireworks. On the other hand, she tends to rush through some of the slower sections, and misses some of the (musical / emotional) ebb and flow that Pogorelich, Zimerman, Brendel, Pollini and others so beautifully capture in their accounts.
I really should give her a call to meet and discuss her vision, face to face...

I have a couple of Haydn records but have never really given them a good listen so this CD should make up for that.
Joseph Haydn - Symphonies 22,26,67 & 80 - BBC Philharmonic - Nicholas Kraemer.

Loving this album again.![]()
Until its first play today after a friend brought it round, I had not heard it since 1983.
Still sounds as good today as it did when it came out in 1976.
Many thanks Jamie.![]()
Glad the you got it, hope you enjoy the others too. Always good to be reunited with music you love.
