Recently did a test between the CD and hi-res of the latest Krall album Quiet Nights - I was surprised how much better the CD sounded that it was more than just a 555 versus dac difference. Other hi-res have sounded better but in this case the CD was superior in every way. It is a shame that with even with hi-res there is no guarantee of superiority and that other "mastering" factors come into play.

This one sounds pretty stunning on the KDS.

it would be interesting to try the quiet nights out on kds versus cd on 555. it wasn't that the hi-res sounded bad - it is a great recording - but when you put the cd back on you realised that it was a lot better

We'll I have the technology to try it Smile

Unfortunately I don't have "Quiet Nights" in any format. If anyone would like to come round and try it, I'd be happy to host.

The Orchid Highway from Vancouver.

I really like it. Very atmospheric & probably more important for me, very accessible.
