‘Played with such astounding agility and aplomb that you end up mesmerised by virtually every bar. Indeed, it is no exaggeration to say that no other pianist could approach Hamelin in such music. Notes pour and cascade like diamonds from his fingers and he has an inborn flair for the music’s wild,
free-wheeling melodies and rhythms, for its glittering whimsy and caprice … superbly presented and recorded, this is a special addition to Hamelin’s towering and unique discography’ (Gramophone)

or this to arrive. What do you think?
Great album but it sounds like a bootleg. Distant vocals etc.
Delmark seem to been releasing a lot of live blues albums recently that were discovered in attics etc. Most of them are great albums but suck big time in sound quality.
cheers Ewen. Looking forward to it.

Loving this snow. Roast in oven, log fire roaring, a pile of CD's and vinyl - ready to rock
Well not played this, I guess, since I bought it on release back in 1984. Wonder how it sounds now.

A great album from last year, in a Boards of Canada / Sly Stone / Dilla kind of way. This is funked up: 'Jealous of Roses'.

(whoops! I accidentally hit send before I could finish and hide my real alter ego...)
Merry Christmas to all,
Despite fighting the effects of a cold, this Sunday (the last in the Advent before Christmas) is turning out to be just a special, remarkable day. I couldn’t sleep (due to plugged nose) so I headed to the piano at 5:30am and started what would become a 3-hour workout. After the first 20 or 30 minutes, my headache eased up and then there was no looking back. Music is a tremendous healer and the only pharmacy I need on a regular basis.
The big snowflakes falling slowly all around since first light on a grey, misty, windless day is also cause for celebration! Nothing could be better except for maybe a rainy, grey, misty, windless day between April and October?
So while I now seek something nourishing in the kitchen to eat, I need to find something nourishing for my ears and soul. No thought needed here. It will require repeated listens of only the first movement of Prokofiev’s 2nd piano concerto in g minor and it will be performed by Anna Vinnitskaya on piano and conducted by Gilbert Varga with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. This will keep me a state of heightened euphoria…

Haim,
In response to an earlier question, I have always held Ivo Pogorelich in high regards. I personally can't understand how a certain label like "eccentric" gets attached to someone and never leaves. It simply isn't true or even relevant and is bandied about, likely by reviewers who may not exactly be searching for truth or enlightenment themselves. I just wish he would record again and that more performers have the courage to make music and be true to themselves too.
I find great joy in all of what I've heard. In fact, his Gaspard de la nuit has been a reference for as long as I can remember.
Regards,
Doug

Robert Fripp plus contributions from Peter Gabriel, Brian Eno, Phil Collins, Daryl Hall, Peter Hammill.....

Adrian - great album, Phil Collins does some great drumming, as well as Hammill adding some excellent vocals, among a great cast of musicians.
Two great live performances from the mid 70's. David Bowie 'Live at Nassau 1976', from the 'Station to Station' box, and Genesis 'Seconds Out;, particularly for Collins, Bruford's and Thompson's great drumming, as well as Hacketts last blast with the band.
