Stefan Hussong playing Bach's English Suites.

Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmelites. It has a horrific ending: a choir of nuns (singing Salve Regina) is slowly getting smaller, as one by one they are led to the guillotine...

This guy certainly knows how to "pick the strings". When I first bought this I only really liked a the well known tracks, but the more I play it the more the whole album grows on me.

Thanks and Happy Holidays - stay warm up North.
Taking me a little while to get into this one.

For me her best is still the album Million Dollar Secret with the Johnny Nocturne band as it really swings.

Jakob Dylan

Strange last three days without my MacBook Pro. It was in for some service and upgrade and returned today with two 500gb external hard drives, one for back-ups and one for music.

Just finished going through 20 pages of "listening" thread since I have been gone. Nice to see everyones choices.

Happy Holiday wishes to all. It is late where most of you are, see you all next weekend.

regards

I've joined you!

Have not heard the complete album yet.
There are so many of them...

Among my favorites are Chicken Skin Music and Bop Till You Drop, because I grew up with those.
And Leon Redbone and Santana to name a few influences.

There are a few albums I (might) miss. I see I have 13 of his. I think most of them are great.

I have at least 9 on CD, and 1 LP so far, but i only found out about him a few years ago so it's all fairly new to me. I've seen him on the telly a couple of times and he seems like a great kind of guy too.

Playing this next...

I'm at "In My Town" now, but after that it's time for sleep. Enjoying it though!

Listening on iPod and Senn HD201, because it's a closed one, but unfortunately the baby still woke up...

Robert Schumann: Ragna Schirmer (Piano)
Etudes in the form of Free Variations on a theme of Beethoven, WoO 31
Symphonic Etudes for Piano, Op. 13

A day of Variations is coming to an end. This time it is Robert Schumann working up a storm. If you have never heard these Variations based on a theme of Beethoven, allow me to give you some motivation and encouragement to do so. This is just a fantastic set of variations and extremely exciting to listen to.

There is a nice thread going on now on the Beethoven Symphonies - Immerseel and so this might interest those familiar with the symphonies. The main theme for these variations is based on the theme of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony / 2nd movement. He also briefly quotes the beginning of the 2nd movement of the Sixth Symphony and the beginning of the 9th.

The balance of the disc is Schumann's own Symphonic Etüdes.
