Yep! great sound as well. What made you try it James? most people steer clear of my choices.
Dean...
Dean - i just have a browse through the thread each morning and select a few albums from the various posts that i've not heard before for the days playlist. I'll now be watching your selections with interest

Hi EJ,
What do you think of Lugansky's Chopin? I've been meaning to pick this one up at some point.
Doug,
It's an exciting listen, and first impressions are very good. He's not as extreme as Demidenko, but Lugansky's sonata #3 is another very different account, and I'll need some time to work it out. In the smaller works, he also comes up with surprises.

..... I started looking for other recordings on the Denon label. Haim
I bought several Denon CD’s in the mid 80’s when they were first issues, some of the disc were also available on vinyl. Maria Joao Pires was recording for them then, a disc of her Mozart Sonata’s has been re-issued on the Portrait Classics label.
I would definitely recommend locating other recordings on the label but they can be expensive. Disc's that have given me great pleasure are -
– Bach – Three Keyboard Concerto’s Andras Schiff (re-issued on the Dal Sengo label)
– Bruckner – Symphony No. 4 Herbert Blomstedt
– Mozart - Violin Concertos 3 And 5 Jean-Jacques Kantorow
The recorded sound is very good, the Bruckner has some splendid climaxes!

Last time I'll peddle this one: the best collection of carols I've heard bar none. It's a great marriage of folklore (bells, organ etc) and serious music making - no camp in sight.
Cheers,
EJ

WNYC - Robert Fripp’s Soundscapes, Live 2010 @ The World Financial Center Winter Garden.
Electric-guitar based ambient music created in the moment by Robert Fripp is what you’ll hear on this New Sounds. Best known as the founder and leader of King Crimson, he developed a tape-looping technique eventually dubbed “Frippertronics,” which he used when he worked with Brian Eno in the mid 1970’s. (Fripp also formed an acoustic steel string performance-ensemble - the League of Crafty Guitarists in the mid-80’s - which has influenced countless guitarists.)
Frippertronics has become Soundscapes, where he creates loops in real time, creating multiple layers, and then improvises solos on top of all of it. Fripp set up in the secular cathedral of the World Financial Center for a two-day residency in early December of 2010 and we’ll hear part of a live performance recorded on December 4, along with John Schaefer’s interview.
Very interesting music and conversation.

Claude,
The only Pires/Dumay disc I have is the Brahms violin sonatas which seems to be a more recent recording:

Not sure if it's newer, but it certainly looks promising. Do you like it Haim?
