Now that is a good recording....hope you enjoyed it
Karl
Karl,
I went with the original recording of 1990 which is without Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2. That piece was added to the 2002 reissue.
I was so taken by the outstanding performance of Gaspard de la nuit that I played it three times in a row last night and still did not have a chance to hear the Prokofiev part.
Haim
Thought you would like it!
Don't hold back on the Prokofiev. The three War Sonata's, No. 6, 7 and 8 are essential listening I think and Pogorelich is as good as any in the 6th - such energy!
Pollini's 7th is self recommending and my favourite of the three -![]()
Karl
Another recommendation for sonatas 7 and 8 (plus the great #2):

Pletnev is helped here by one of the best piano recordings ever.
EJ
Thanks for the suggestion. It would be good to get a modern recording of the 8th as well a alternative interpretation of both sonata's. I have Richter's version which was recorded the year I was born (early '60's)on DG Dokument

Esther Ofarim- Live in Tel Aviv 1973
A voice which pulled you in and made you in no time forget that actually you were not understanding any of the the lyrics. I wish that they could have masked all the thunderous clapping of the live recording.

My mom loved her, so I grew up with her songs. She was a very popular artist in Germany in the early 70s.
Just got the XRCD a few weeks back.

Oliver,
The Israeli public was very mad at Esther and Avi (her husband) Ofarim for leaving Israel to go to Germany to make a lot of money and the silly national radio boycotted her songs and would not play them for quite some time. Eventually, she returned home to be successful and very popular again. This concert is in Hebrew after her coming back.
How is her XRCD album?

Haim, never knew that. The XRCD is fine but I bought it mainly for nostalgic reasons.

Sitting here contented after a day of great food, weather, company & nice glass or two of wine.
I am stunned how good this album is. I'd stumbled upon it ages ago before, in one of those random Amazon sessions that takes you into pastures new.
It was on my Xmas purchase list & since then I've seen it posted once before by Haim. Well today I've been allowed to listen to it along with other CD's after finding it under the Christmas tree. It's been worth the wait.
I've always loved flamenco but this album combines great production, Dave Holland on bass & tunes that will blow your mind. Have a listen, its wonderful, IMO.
Happy Christmas all. Thanks for all of the posts & tips from fellow forum members that have made my musical journey even more diverse & fulfilling.
Cheers

Sublime sound through the SRH840's (they are very analytical, yet give a bold representation of the source)
Merry Christmas to all musicloving people and thank you for another year of exchanging great musical experiences and sharing your emotions!
