So Dean - do you like Abercrombie? I saw you played another of his albums a couple of days ago. One of the more interesting American jazz musicians to my ears.

Adrian,

I did not at first but I've grown to like the two CD's that I own. They are quite slow, gentle and sparse and that at first made me feel uneasy now I'm getting more used to slower music and appreciate it more. I think I'll be getting more of his work. I've realised I like Guitar Jazz as well.

That's probably the only Sclavis on ECM I don't own - must add it to my wishlist! Have you seen the Napoli's Walls concert on YouTube (or DVD)?. Looks like it was quite a night:

I have to say I am quite enjoying this album, on vinyl as well.

I'll take a look at the video. Must play Joel Grare as well sometime soon as I have not given it the attention it probably deserves...

I'm really enjoying my first listen Adrian. It's a very unusual sound world, with elements of jazz, early music and chinese classical mashed together in a very organic way.

Hi Flettster,

Noticed you playing these a bit lately. In case you didn't know, they released a new mixtape as a free download a few days ago - kills.

I haven't heard it yet, though I did notice that 'Ecstasy' from the above album is Weezy's 'Lollipop' with their words on top. (I probably shouldn't admit to knowing that.)

Well just back from a spin on the tandem and now time for some serious piano music -

Absolutely captivating. The piano tone must be the best I've heard yet since getting my new Naim amp a couple of weeks ago.

Wow Karl... you seem to be as much of a Pogo / Kovacevich nut as myself, and your name suggests we drive the same brand of car. Can't be coincidence! Winker

Hi,

Not a nut of Pogorelich/Kovacevich in particular, rather a nut for music in general! Nevertheless the discs of Pororelich I do have are all good with the Prokofiev 6th Sonata and Bach English Suite No. 2 being my favourites.

And yes my name is due to my love (and ownership) of a certain English sports car - a 1970's S4 Elan.

Regards,

Karl

Karl,

Good points and agree that the Elan S4 is right up there with the most beautiful English sports cars ever made.

Incidentally, my fist encounter with Pogorelich was a concert, many years ago, with a substantial amount of Bach on the playlist. It was VERY good, and he was kind enough to chat a bit after the concert. It was a great experience, and I have been collecting his (few) CDs and attending the occasional (rare) live performance since.

Cheers,

EJ
