Midlake - The Courage of Others

Lontano, there is a wonderfully restrained bombastic primitive swagger that permatues this (my favorite) kind of 'Americanized' Indie Folk Rock fusion of which Kings Of Leon, Mumford & Sons, Cohen & the Ghost and Okkervil River are great examples (among many, many others). I am sure you can add others ...The Decemberists?

I need to try Mumford, Ghost and Okkervil. Have you got Opeth Damnation. It has some similar sounds to Midlake (this is the acoustic, no death vocal Opeth).

This has been on repeat play today - it surpasses my expectations and is just wonderful; if you haven't heard it then you're missing out - the drums on the opener are just incredible. If a better album is coming out this year then put me on the pre-order list.

God I hope it's better than her debut.

I bought it today and will give it more time to see if I get to really like it. I think it is better than her last album.

There is a better album coming out though on Monday that I actually seriously think you might like. You can preorder here. Preorder..
The first truly great release of the year (says the review)

Joe,
What other copies of it do you have?
I have a German original.
Sounds very good to me.

Hi Stu,

I have just sold that and it's nice, but this is exceptional.

Hi Adrian

Do you think it is even better than here debut, which is my album of decade by a country mile (with the possible exception of the HMHB elpees released this century). The new Basia Bulat album is sheer class and I agree that it is every bit as good as the debut.

The Midlake album looks interesting and a review that says Phrases like "strangely frigid" and "cold" are scattered throughout and there is some lamenting about the overwhelming influence of English folk rock. Personally if any band want to plunder the works of Fairport Convention, Pentangle or Nick Drake for inspiration it sounds like a wonderful prospect particularly if the band as good as Midlake has me interested. I'll ignore the headliner comparing them with Radiohead, as all other comments are really positive - I'll give it go.

Thanks Rotf

Normally, I like the Diament and Joe Sidore Led Zeppelin. This is the exception:

Yes Stu, it's an even better copy. Demo quality, as I'm sure Oliver will confirm.

Excellent record I agree - have you tried Baron von Tollbooth and the Chrome Nun, which is in the same vein and, IMHO, even better.
