Adrian,
Do I detect the impression that you did not enjoy the gig, or was it just the content?
Regards
Nic
Edit: Just seen your comments on the other thread. I must admit I rather liked the up tempo stuff, as did my wife. She hates him on record. The percussionist was pretty amazing to watch, very interesting to see how those sounds were being made.

Big gathering to demolish a four rib beef joint with all the trimmings. Relaxing after everyone has gone home/to bed, with remaining red wine and a nice fire. Feeling in a mellow mood, this reminds me why life is so good.

Nice one Nic. It is great relaxing music and what Jan does best. Just wish he had played more of this stuff at the gig I saw tonight.

Nic,
I did enjoy it but not as much as other gigs I have seen of his. Perhaps if he had thrown in a few of the older tracks I would have been very happy. Still not a bad start to the concert year and some good ones coming up soon. Next up Pat Metheny.
cheers

Nick Drake - Made To Love Magic. A present from my brother-in-law who came with his entourage to stay for the weekend. And I thought he liked me................?

Miles Davis 'la grande halle de la villette, paris, france, 10 july 1991' (compiled from various broadcasts). Has the only recording of the band playing Prince's 'Penetration', as well as many guests from older line ups.
Roxy Music 'Manifesto' after listening to the BBC4 documentary recently.

Laura Veirs - July Flame. This seems to have had a few indifferent comments here but I really like it. Better with each play, as they say.

No indifferent comments from me. I liked it from first listen and, as you, more with each since.

Not sure I understood your brother-in-law comment. Did you not like the Nick Drake, or the entourage (why does he have such) ?. I wouldn't call myself a big ND fan, but have liked most anything I have heard.

It was all a bit tongue in cheek, Jeff. The entourage was actually one of his daughters, his girlfriend and his girlfriends youngest son. There went my peace for the weekend - pesky kids, lol! Who'd have 'em? Ha ha.
As for Nick Drake, it was my first proper listen to his music - I 'll reserve judgement for now but would say that it didn't exactly grab my interest.
Cheers, Mark.

I am going to join you Jeff. Listening to it whilst working. It's very good and the only Elliott album I have and I have not played it for a few years. What else of his would you recommend? I was thinking of getting New Moon.

Earlier, new album from Stefano Battaglia and Michele Rabbia. Battaglia is never easy listening and I managed to get through it and quite enjoy it.

Sounds like a nightmare weekend to a child-less-by-choice me

Would tend to agree with your ND comment, though I have not heard that particular album. Very quiet introspective songwriter, there is a certain mood when it is perfect, and other times not-so-much. Not unlike the E Smith I am listening to now. No denying these men were both gifted, but not anytime kind of listening. But possibly just-right at the right time.
Jeff A
ps. not sure what is up with all my hyphens today, but for now I am just going with it.

Earlier, Jonas Kaufman doing some Schubert.
