John and Wayne - Cumbrian at Heart, not as 'instant' as the first album but 'Recognised in Reading' is the new 'Coventry'.
Production seesm 'flatter' than the first.
Looking forward to Francis Nunnery on 24th

My first listen. i think one has to be in exactly the right kind of mood for this, and make some effort to get ones mind tuned in to the landscape which may not be familiar territory.
I wouldn't rush out to recommend it, a kind of hear before you buy sort of music, for some will not take to it, but may suit us Tangerine Dream fans (or like me) fans of FSOL.
Other first impressions ~ perhaps this may be just as well be on cd format(?)
...but i do like it's incidental abstractness, and also when it gives my sbl mk1 drivers a jolly good thrumping : )

Hello Debs.
I have never heard the expression "a jolly good thrumping" before.
How I did laugh
Also sounds a bit rude though.
I'm going to steal the use of it; hope you don't mind?
Paul.

Previously at Mongo Castle this masterpiece
And now this one. Seems to have taken an awful lot of listening. But now obviously well worth the effort. More from 10 000 maniacs to come for me I think.

The squeamish can leave on the foam grills and put fingers in their ears, and pretend it isn't happening!quote:Originally posted by mongo:

Next up, some of this (by no means all).
Btw, is this jazz?

No not really IMHO. I used to enjoy him when he first came out on the scene back in 2002/3. We used to play some of his early albums a lot. Then I went to see him play in Sydney for his Australian debut record company concert and all he did was run and jump around being a bit of a twit rather than doing a good job playing the piano. Went off him after that. Maybe I ahould have a listen to the new one....

It's a bit of a mix really.
'Wheels', 'I'm all over it' and 'mixed tape', imo, are very good stuff, but 'Not while i'm around' and 'I think I love' are terminally embarrassing and I have to ff them.
Perhaps when he's a little older?

While I attempt to write 150-200 words of deathless prose about the band, without allowing my personal enthusiasm for them to overshadow my objectivity.
