Every now and again an album just grabs you and you don't know why. It may not be seminal or have instantly outstanding merits but you just can't stop playing it...

(download only from amazon or itunes I think)

Includes the tracks 'Twilight' and 'Hitler In My Heart'.

Still for me one of those rare albums that when you stumble across it, it just gets under your skin for life.

Keep meaning to buy an Anthony album. Is this the best?

Klemperer and the Philharmonia in the incredible 1955 EMI stereo recording of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony!

If there was ever a more incisive performance, it would be amazing, but to combine this incisiveness with the warmth of humanity is to be the act of a great orchestra playing its heart out for an admired [not by then beloved] master of the conducting art - an act of musical recreative genius.

This recording is currently available in the stereo cycle of Beethoven Symphonies from 1955 [Seventh] to 1961 [the Erioca and Fifth]. The others were set down in the Autumn of 1957.

It may also be obtained as a single CD coupled with the 1955 mono recording of the Fifth. This was recorded the same week, but no complete stereo master was produced. The Seventh was recorded in stereo more by luck than good judgement as the stereo tape recorders were unreliable at that stage.

But this is one of the great Beethoven Symphonic performances caught by the gramophone, and it [i]caught[/i me this evening!

Phenomenal!
