Now this is more like it..............
I just saw the latest video she did with Beyonce. Horrible song and the video is a cheap Tarantino rip off, very disappointing IMO.
Concur. This "artist" is unlistenable. Don't even get me started on the garbage that is the Black Eyed Peas.
I actually like Beyonce, some of the work of the Black Eyed Peas and am not familiar enough with Lady Gaga to pass judgement, but that particular video just rubbed me the wrong way.

Had to look it up as I've successfully avoided everything she's done and hadn't seen it - eww. Already parodying herself, I give the Lady a year, tops. At least it picks up a little when B shows up, I suppose, but not one of Jonas Ã…kerlund's finest efforts.
Still, it looks a good year for hyperreal, long and crazy videos. Just for winky, here's the Black Eyed Peas latest: Imma Be Rocking That Body.* Two songs for the price of one, and Fergie's (unintentional) Sarah Palin impression makes me smile. For the impatient, it starts around six minutes in.
(* Munch, It was after seeing that video and noticing yet another sample of Think (About It) that I dug out the Lyn Collins album you ordered from HMV a while back.)

Miles Davis - Kind of Blue.
Being someone who is just starting out... does anyone have any thoughts on where I should go after KoB? Thankyou - I'm sure there is a huge amount of Jazz out their that I will love but I just don't understand (yet) contemporary stuff.
Cheers,
Robert

There have been quite a few threads if you have a quick look through past threads, all very helpful, especially for Miles Davis as there are some real experts on his music and jazz in general here.
For a start here a a CD very similar to 'Kind of Blue':

Julian cannonball Adderley 'Somthin' Else'
I would also say try Thelonious Monk 'Monk's Music', Art Blakey and the Jazz Messangers' Moanin', Charles Mingus 'Mingus Ah Um'.
If you want to try electric jazz/fusion, a gentle start is Miles Davis 'In a Silent Way', very similar feel to the 'lazy' 'Kind of Blue', but with electric instruments. If you want something funky, try Herbie Hancock 'Head Hunters'.
There will be lots of other helpful suggestions I am sure.
Here are a couple of threads to start with.

The cover illustration is from Paul Whitehead, the original artist for the Genesis and VDGG covers of the early 70's.
The sound is excellent, pre-FM BBC master. Looks like I will be down in London at the end of the month.

Hi Robert
I have nearly always found this forum is very generous in helping people explore new music. Members don't play at musical superiority, but are happy to advise and guide others on the music they love.
When starting with a new genre of music like jazz, classical, or even contemporary forms like electronic, or metal, it can be quite daunting by the amount of choice available, and this is a great place to get it.
Sometimes one person's favourite might not be yours in the end, but I have certainly found many useful suggestions here. There are many people here who are very knowledgeable about jazz, old and new.
I hope you enjoy exploring jazz, it can be very rewarding.
A couple more threads worth looking at are the very lively discussions started by Mike Eschman questioning the 'death of jazz'.
