This gentleman. Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu or short Gurrumul.

This is a most amazing album. He is blind, he plays guitar (with a string missing) and sings like a choir of angels. He is from an island off Northern Oz. I remember buying this from my local record store in Oz and will always remind me of sitting in my sunny listening room in amongst the gum trees.

I always thought I had seen him at the Opera House together with you but now I remember that you had already left Sydney and I went with Suzy.

Now for a bit of rock.

I saw this young singer/songwriter a few years ago supporting Richard Thompson. She was utterly charming, and I reckon this is her best album. Catchy as hell, quirky without being annoying, and quite unique.

Me and Jane saw him in London last year - lots of tears, that voice and the good memories really knocked us for six.

Well now I am in good company. The Joel Grare and the Daniel Brel's Quatre Chemins de Melancolie discs never leave my coffee table.

This is one of my altime favorite albums its by two members of The Pretenders and has the best version of State Of Independence sung by Chrissie Hynde, mind blowingly good.

Jeff - this is an Aussie band that you might enjoy - I think this might suit your tastes a bit more than my John Williamson suggestion Winker

Lovely album, Haim. Also try "Suspended Night" and "Lontano", two other fine Stanko albums.
