Not played any Melody Gardot for a while. Going to see her on the 21st of this month.

On CD:-

I can't help feeling this is how PG live should be. Rock instruments and orchestral pieces too.
SMB project limited the musical parameters and IMO limited the music too!
Admittedly it was much better live, but it still lacked something, the orchestrations for his own songs opened up, and me and the audience re-acted so much more.
If I had been able to see PG live previously UP or Secret World, may be I would have a different view.

Howard this is what he has often done over his 35 year solo career - great stuff but for me a change was more than welcome and I think brilliantly executed. In fact, in many cases, I preferred the new versions to the originals. This setting also highlighted the brilliance of his voice.

I have listened to quite a few of the original songs that he covered on Scratch My Back and in almost all cases, except for Heroes, I prefer how Peter has made his version more intense and emotional. To behonest, many of the songs I had not heard before this album and they are, to me, really Gabriel songs as a result rather than covers. Brilliant late night listening.

I think you have maybe summed it up in your last sentence, with this being your first Gabriel tour, you wanted his traditional concert. For me though, having seen him many times, I thought this current tour (advertised as orchestral) was a great leap forward in a new direction and I hope he does more of it. We won't know though for quite a while as based on current timelines, his next album will be due when he is 70.

Streaming live from NPR. What I have heard so far, although fine, makes me think I don't need it.
