What are you listening to? (VOL VI)

El hombre trajeado - shlap

Picked up (like so many of my recent miserly purchases) at a bargain shop for a pound, not having a clue what it was. It was in the 'specialist' music section, along with everything else that wasn't pop/rock/r&b/metal/hip-hop.

I thought it was going to be something spanish--some dodgy fusion between traditional spanish guitar and modern techno, or similar.

Turned out to be nothing of the sort, but still difficult to classify--my initial impression was a modern prog-rock variant (hint of mars volta). I don't know if I like it, but I have been listening to it more than many of my other questionable pot-luck purchases (who knew folksy singer-songwriting could be so dull...)

A quick scan of the internet revealed three things:

  • El Hombre Trajeado have disbanded;
  • They are (were) catagorised as 'math-rock'--a new term for me;
  • Best of all, they've made their recordings available for free download from http://www.elhombre.co.uk/

Nae bad.

Logical Progression 'Level 2' (LT Bukem, Blame).
I loved this album in the 90's, and after being in an Underworld and Orbital mood recently gave it a try again. It has dated very badly, it sounds very wishy-washy and light. Pity.

They are classed as Acid folk Oliver. Personally I am not sure what to make of them yet. Very acoustic style almost sound like a Spanish flamenco band sometimes.

Hi Oliver,

I guess it falls under the acoustic rock label. I haven't listened to it in a long while, but it is pretty good. It's their only record that I know of. You can listen to some samples here.

BFAF

A great Canadian dobro player. Pretty much unheard of who is on one of my favourite Canadian music labels Northern Music.

They are also on Spotify Oliver as I just found out. Been awhile since I heard the album so maybe listen to it tonight later on.
