I have this CD (and now the 24/96 files) for quite a long time, and I have seen the three play exactly THIS repertoire. Some of the decisions for (or against) Naim upgrades have been made on the base of one song or the other (in particular "after the rain" and "no flight tonight". Not very romantic, but that is what makes me VERY familiar with this CD. I don't think it SOUNDS very good, but the music is captured quite well - with all the noise and stuff that you have when you are not in a perfect studio environment.

A long time companion…

cheers
Stefan

I don't play this album as often as I could.

I've only played it once - should I play it more often?

I quite like it but notice I did choose my words carefully and say 'as often as I could' not as I 'should'. In the scheme of which album I play in the time I have to listen it won't figure highly in my play list but it does deserve the odd spin imho.

Another good example for music that I enjoyed (and I mean it) life. Excellent co-playing that exceeds the CD experience

cheers

Nice choice Gordon - they released that on vinyl in Japan only. I have never seen it in the UK but did bump into a copy that I bought in Paris.

Cool, mine is an mp3 download from Amazon.

I am intrigued by the music emerging from Norway right now.

Saturday morning in sunny Nz. This album is a great start to a weekend of music.

I discovered this wonderful singer shortly after joining this forum (Lontano I think) Another great reason for joining & keeping an eye on the best thread on the site.

Much better than spending all day worrying about the size of your toroidal transformer as happens on other parts of the forum. Each to their own Smile

Cheers

Schubert - Arpeggione Sonata
Stravinsky - Three Pieces for string quartet, Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo, Concertino
Mozart - Clarinet Quintet in A, K581

Allegri Quartet with James Campbell

Courtesy of Simon and Hannah and their spring clean in Naim Label HQ, a super treat for the weekend: new (free!) CDs. I was the grateful recipient of this 'un and the Mozart string quintets K515/516 - Allegri discs.

While I was more excited about the Mozart string quintets (I love these two works, especially the darker K516), the disc pictured above is proving more interesting: not only is the program more daring, but the arrangement of Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata for clarinet is gorgeous.

The performances on both discs have a very natural, fluid feel and the sound is lovely. This disc was recorded in 1997 and was mastered by Julian Vereker.

Amen to that.
