Following Munch's praise of this a while back I bought it.

And it is indeed very good, so I bought some more of his stuff. This constitutes a whole new collection for me.

bought this recently too. Can't remember why, but it's great stuff and up next.

Dean...

Adrian, Like Dean, I'm loving your above Oversteps post. Just getting better and better for me with each play, and one of their best.

Did you go for the rather fine quadruple gatefold cd...

... or the work of art that is the vinyl edition? Either way, I expect it sounds, erm, quite good on your main system.

From the above album, here's Dean internet legend, Dave Elsewhere, getting down to Eutow.

I got the quadruple CD version. I also bought another of your faves, FourTet as well as Heligoland - a lot of excitement all in one weekend Smile

Yep, it does sound good!

Excellent stuff. I was out most of Sunday, and when I saw your Bonobo, Four Tet, and Autechre posts late last night, I thought you'd been borrowing my records!

While you're on a roll, and while I remember, if you haven't heard it, please look out for another great Warp release from last year, the Bibio album in my picture above. This one:

Not easy to describe, but it's really good, with a real mix of different stuff on it.

OK, I'll check it out on my next Brighton trip. Cheers

My introduction to Egberto Gismonti - and a whole variety of new, exciting music for me. Must have been 1980 or so. I still remember the evening when this beautiful girl played this record. How wrong was I with my interpretation of that evening, then… Big Grin

cheers
Stefan

I was introduced to this by a girlfriend a good while back and I seem to remember quite enjoying it as something different from my usual stuff.

So thanks for the reminder I'll get it at the weekend.

Cheers, Paul.

Doug,

How is it? I have two discs of Hewitt playing Beethoven's piano sonatas but I don't listen to them too often.
How would you compare Hamelin's Haydn piano sonatas to Bavouzet's?

By the way, I started listening to different Beethoven piano trios. I really enjoyed the Guarneri trio:

Haim,
I agree with you about Hewitt in the Piano Sonatas. I have the Vol. 1 of the Cello Sonatas though and quite enjoyed the disc. But it just may be that Daniel Müller-Schott is the draw here for me? I don't have anything bad to say about Hewitt here either though.

Truthfully, I'm very familiar with and love this music so dearly that it likely doesn't matter who plays because I'm playing it in my head the way I want anyway.

I'd recommend this set and would say they are keepers for me. They hold their own against all the other sets I have. Try Volume 1 first probably.

Haim,
This looks interesting. I'm not familiar with Balbastre so I look forward to getting this.

Thanks,

It is one of my favourite ECM covers. I would not hang about as it is Out of Print and going up in price. Find it quick!

I just got this one from eBay on vinyl. Collin Walcott is as expressive as ever.
