Another fantastic survey of Chopin's music with takes from various composer's down the line.

The Balakirev Impromptu is just a fascinating combination and take on two of Chopin's Preludes. Much like Godowsky paid the ultimate tribute to Chopin's Etudes this is just marvelous for my ears to hear. The Mompou is another highlight. This is a great album and if you are very familiar with Chopin I wouldn't hesitate to suggest this to anyone interested.

Jonathan Plowright (Piano)

1. Impromptu for Piano by Mily Balakirev (Based on Chopin’s Preludes, e♭ and B.)
2. Hommage à Chopin, Op. 111 no 1 by Franz Bendel

4. Variations (10) on Chopin's Prelude in c, Op. 22/K 213a by Ferruccio Busoni
5. Notturno, Op. 48 no 1 "La réminiscence de Chopin" by Eduard Nápravník
6. Morceaux (18) for Piano, Op. 72: no 15, Un poco di Chopin by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky
7. Souvenir de Chopin by Arthur Honegger
8. Mazurkas (3) for Piano, Op. 32 no 1 by Lennox Berkeley
9. Hommage à Chopin by Heitor Villa-Lobos
10. Variations on a theme by Chopin by Federico Mompou
11. Lanterne magique, Op. 66: no 2, Hommage à Chopin by Benjamin Godard

Haim, nice choices with the Jordi Savall and Stefan Hussong!

For me, it is more Chopin and in particular the Scherzos. The b minor with its unrelenting terror and drama sandwiching the humble Polish carol Lulajze Jezunin, the unbelievably satisfying climax to the c sharp minor scherzo and the forward looking, richly coloured E major Scherzo.

I listened to this one in the morning as well.
Am glad to hear that some french music can cross the Channel... Cause of the power of Naim amplifiers I presume!

Doug,

Sounds to me like you are definitely in a scherzophonic mood today.

By the way, what do you think of these guys?
