Stefan,
This is a different piano player, a Lim versus a Lin, though she sounds very good playing the Chopin. I might get the disc.
Thanks,

Doug,
I am narrowing my choices for Beethoven's piano trios. It is coming down to Beaux Arts, Parnassus or the Guarneri piano trios.
I asked about the Guarneri guys because I don't have any of their music. On their set, the trios Op. 38 & Op. 11 are performed with clarinet instead of violin.
Regards,
Haim

Some of us might say that should be the other way round
Naim is always the best!

But seriously, now that I am slowly going through some of the ECM recordings that I've bought from the US, I am delightfully surprised how good the recordings are. Keith Jarrett's 'My Foolish Heart' is simply superb.

The guys at ECM at geniuses. Any idea how they make live recordings sounds so good? I love Stanley Jordan's 'Live in New York', but the standard of EMI's recording does not even come close.

Hi tjb,
Can you, or anyone recommend any particular albums from Bruce Cockburn's prodigious output? I know only one song of his that appears on a compilation disc (Let us go laughing on Canoesongs Volume 1) but it's one of the disc's highlights, and I want to explore more.

Hi Nathaniel,
I'm no expert - we need Ricky Dasler to chip in - but my current favourite is Breakfast in New Orleans, Dinner in Timbuktu:

This is a band effort rather than Bruce solo and it is playing as I type - wonderful stuff!

Nathaniel
A good place to start is his compilation called 'Waiting for a Miracle'. This was issued in the UK on Revolver. I have it on the black stuff but I think it was issued on CD. The earlier stuff is more folksy bluesy ( in a good way!) and became more band after a few Lps. I particularly like 'Dancing in the Dragon's Jaws' which has the wonderful 'Wondering where the Lions Are' and the Lp 'Stealing Fire' which has 'I wish I had a rocket Launcher' and Peggy's Kitchen walls' on it, from this time. On the later he wore his political views well on his sleve. I like 'High Winds White Sky' which I think is his second lp. After the above compilation he did two lps on Columbia with T Bone Burnett at the helm and then a series of which 'Breakfast....' is one.
I am a fan and so suitably 'biased'. He is well worth getting to know. 'Waiting...' may give you pointers of where to go tho'. The only Lp I am not a fan of is 'Live' on Cooking Vinyl here. A curiously lacklustre live recording so I would leave it till later!
have fun. james

I really like his album Speechless. It is a compilation of instrumentals from several albums and is excellent.

It's a superb album. When you can try this Trio album, Whisper Not, recorded live in Paris in 1999. I was at this show, so you can probably hear me clapping clearly in this excellent ECM recording

Sorry this is a tad large. I'm afraid I'm a little technically challenged. This is an album by Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins. Having very good taste he moved to NZ for awhile & got caught up in the dub movement over here. Not sure if you can get this in the UK. You can definitely get his latest album FELT or HEARD a previous release. This is really blissful stuff.
Or try this .....

by Michael Hunter AKA Butch Cassidy Sound system. I believe he hails from Glasgow. Michael plays all of the instruments on this example of modern dub excellence.
Both worth a listen.
Cheers
