Hawkins has a nice tone on the tenor sax. Should be made compulsory listening for anyone learning to play the sax.
Damn right!
... and I'll third that.

How do you like it, Jeff? Anais has been one of my discoveries of the year.

An early compilation from a band that seems to divide opinion quite strongly. For those that do like The Fall though this era was possibly their best.

I like it, Mark. Have had it a couple months and I find her voice likable (others have commented otherwise) and the songwriting/storytelling top rate. As with so many artists, I hope eventually to get more of her work.
best regards

How fashions have changed - they just don't make shoes like that anymore. She seems happy enough with them, though.

Doug, to your attention.
Haim, it looks like Arkivmusic has this in stock so it went on my wishlist. I did not know anything about this label Arbiter but will investigate further into some of their recordings. Interesting stuff.
Doug
Doug,
I got my copy from Amazon. It is my first Arbiter as well. The Scriabin Chez Scriabin recording was made 50 years ago in a small room, not under the best acoustical conditions, so it is hard to tell by it how good this label is.

Very nice. I do not have many non-jazz albums, but this one made it into my collection. I like listening to it whilst reading. Brings back a lot of happy memories of the library.

Last night was a sort of compelling marathon!
Mozart's Don Giovanni and then Cosi Fan Tutti.
which amounts to about five and half hours of music!
The performances were from the 1935 and 1936 Glyndebourne productions conducted by Fritz Busch recorded by HMV on the stage during the the afternnons preceding the performances.
Absolutely tremendous!

Isabelle Faust.
Last week I was persuaded by the friendly record store to listen to her solo Bach disc, HMC 902059. No mean feat as I recently bought the Viktoria Mullova recording. However, her playing is so compelling that I parted with the money, and have been playing it all week.
Today I went back to the store and bought her Martinu disc, HMC 901951. If you haven't heard this violinist, check her out.

And now, for someone younger. I just this morning (No tomato throughing, pleaseā¦) discovered her voice, after years that I saw this and Tigerlily covers, here and elsewhere. I am caught. Have she and Margo Timmins aver played together ? No doubt would that too much / too good for my weak nerves.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
