Chico Freeman was amongst the first "real" Jazz artists I bought. I still play "Spirit Sensitive" - my first CF record (now on CD) often.
cheers

As a new member of this forum I must also confess that I am more than happy to find some people sharing the same interest in music.

Just checked and I have no Chico in the collection something I need to address, although he does play along on this album now spinning.

Am a fan of Chico,
You spin an other album I've never heard about. How does it sound?
Cheers

"TiCanAlley is not amongst my fave albums. It doesn't show CF (nor DeJohnete) in the quality they have. To me it sounds like there was JUST a bit too much smoke involved…
Other CF records I recommend are:
- Still sensitive
- Tradition in Transition
- You'll know when you get there (less so)
and with his father (Von Freeman)
- The Great Devide
- The Improvisor
(and older recordings, if you can get them)
cheers

Christophe, this is one of my ECM's that has had little attention until today. I have always preferred Jack DeJohnette on other people's albums rather than as leader. Now I am realising that was a mistake. This album is really, really good and Chico is most definitely the main man. His sax is the lead instrument and what a lovely tone. The CD is now out of print according to the ECM website but I see amazon.fr have a few copies available.
He also plays on another only available on vinyl ECM, Jack de Johnette - Inflation Blues. I believe Inflation Blues might be released on CD soon.

PS I now see a reply from Stefan so I look forward to trying some Chico albums if they are that much better!

French jazz at it's best IMHO. Saw these guys at the sunset jazz club in Paris in late 90's. Excellent music.

Superb, though studio tweeked, live album from some energetic Canadian blokes.
