Indeed! If for no other reason that it contains one of the essential elements of good jazz in bucketloads...humour!

I agree with you that this a very good album except for track 2 that just grates on me. Not sure why they put it in when the rest of the album is consistently relaxing.

Couldn't agree more with you, just disrupts the flow.

I don't mind track 2, but I get nervous when Tom (I assume) starts humming on track 5. Track 9 has raucous bits, but they're balanced by the wonderful calm of the last track. I enjoy the light and shade - the willingness to juxtapose jazz "spazz-outs" with tender lyrical passages.

Haha! I'm really looking forward to the Jarrett/Haden CD later this month.

Was in Düsseldorf, that week, so… But still. I would have liked to see them. Especially in the venue that has already hosted SO many great concerts. Small and acoustically exceptional. Oh, well…

Remember a concert when Shakti (or was it Mahavishnu Orchestra ?) was the "opener" to Soft Machine. Times have changed, indeed !

So am I. Can't wait.

Adrian, have you seen them play together on that TV feature I had sent you ? Very promising, no ?

I think I am going to watch it right now - good idea.

Here is a short review of the new album from the Independent on Sunday Smile

"This is Jarrett's first studio album for 12 years, and his first date with bassist Haden for 34.

It's an intimate, home-studio recording of love songs – deep, almost painfully heartfelt – and so good it will be sure to top most best-of lists. There's no tricksiness, just the woody thump of Haden's bass adding authority to Jarrett's tender, faithful chording. "For All We Know" is a Desert Island Discs cert; "Body & Soul" is done almost jauntily; the closing "Don't Ever Leave Me" a bitter sweet miracle. If you buy only one album this year, etc."
