I agree. I think the new John McLaughlin album is really strong. The first track sounds a little like Pat Metheny. Different guitar style of course but similar feel IMHO

And?

Only a first play but it is without question an outstanding album. Having heard it and read the feature in this months Jazzwise I would love to see them live.

Franz Schubert: Complete Works for Violin & Piano, Vol 2: Martin Helmchen (Piano), Julia Fischer (Violin and Piano)

Sonata for Violin and Piano in A major, D 574/Op. 162
Fantasy for Violin and Piano in C major, D 934/Op. 159
Fantasy for Piano 4 hands in F minor, D 940/Op. 103

Why? I've died and gone to heaven!! Sheer bliss!! The opening minutes of either Fantasy played here just happen to be examples of the some of the greatest music ever written and here I listen to two of my favorite young performers PLUS I get to hear Julia Fischer play piano as well. This disc will not be leaving my player very often in the months to come. Wunderbar!

Sounds good. I've got Vol.1, which is excellent, but the second has yet to reach down under. I'm looking forward to seeing/hearing Julia Fischer in Amsterdam later this month.

Mick, you lucky guy!!!! It's not fair Frown I have Vol. 1 as well which is nice too. I enjoyed it very much. I'm personally more familiar with the volume 2 set as I've played a good chunk of it on the piano so this is why this volume 2 has me just somewhat ecstatic. For me the best release of the year so far and you should get it as soon as is available!! : )

Regards,
Doug

First couple of listens. Not bad, especially the guest vocals by Roxie Ray.

Cheers

Similar to Oscar Peterson who mumbles under the breath!

Irwan,

I have the CD version which is up to the usual high ECM production quality standards. I don't have a turntable anymore, my vinyl is consigned to the loft at the moment. Unfortunately I was only listening through my ipod/SoundDock, which I take with me when I work away from home - although the sound there is perfectly acceptable to keep me playing some tunes.

Mark, I love vinyl but find that it can be a little too tedious sometimes. I bought an Eagles album over the weekend and it is still sitting on my turntable with the wrapper on. I am ripping my CDs with iTunes and accessing it from my laptop. It is so much more convenient to just stream into the Supernait DAC. I must be one of the few people on planet earth that has not bought an iPod yet. The medium does not really matter, just as long as we get to enjoy our music! Big Grin Having said that, it would be nice to be able to afford electronics from the 500 series and a pair of DBLs.

I like it especially the new 20th Anniversary issue. This reissue in unusual in that it adds a number of extra tracks to the original album but rather than tagging them on the end it adds them all at the beginning - and good tracks they are. The album benefits a lot from remastering also. It is not an album I play a lot but when the mood takes then I can really enjoy it.
