I like it especially the new 20th Anniversary issue. This reissue in unusual in that it adds a number of extra tracks to the original album but rather than tagging them on the end it adds them all at the beginning - and good tracks they are. The album benefits a lot from remastering also. It is not an album I play a lot but when the mood takes then I can really enjoy it.

Th only copy that I have of this album is on chrome cassette. Still playing fine after all these years. I am amazed at the level of musicianship, but I've not been able to dig it yet. Not heard the 20th Anniversary re-issue yet.

Perhaps I should say only the CD is on loan from the library, unfortunately! Smile

Early works by Mendelssohn, helped immensely by a great performance.

Lovely piano solos. If you like Ludovico Einaudi (which I do) you will probably like this.

Felix puts hot sauce on some fine Techno and makes all the ladies go weak at the knees.

ARTISTS
Carlos Bica (double bass); Matthias Schriefl (trumpet, flugelhorn, melodica); Joao Paulo (piano, keyboards, accordion); Mario Delgado (electric guitar); Joao Lobo (drums, percussion)

“Carlos Bica + Prima Matéria” confirms Bica as one of Portugal’s most important jazz musicians and reaffirms his key role in the development of new perspectives for Portuguese jazz. The CD is packed with songs recorded at three memorable concerts in three memorable locations, Culturgest, Casa da Música, and the Orient Museum. In this project, one of the most challenging of his career, Bica gives rein to his enormous talent as an arranger and songwriter, achieving a remarkable balance between folk elements and a unique vision for modern jazz. In eight original songs and two covers — one from Marc Ribot and a Ry Cooder classic, “Paris Texas” — all conceived as launching pads for improvisation, “Carlos Bica + Prima Matéria” is a kaleidoscope of strong emotions and is a brilliant document of unique events

Charlie Haden's Private Collection, both editions on 24/96.

Not a proof found that 24/96 sounds much better, but the remastering is remarkably better than the old CD's.

cheers
Stefan

Seconded. Unlike other Metheny CD's (which always "work" somehow), this one is very much depending on your mood. It may cause you to stop it right after you turned it on. But, if all is right, it is SO enjoyable. Just turn down the volume in the "wild" passages, maybe…

cheers
Stefan
