Guitar and rhythm noodles. Quite nice. Needs more time to unravel some more.

I have to be honest and say that I am struggling a bit with this album. I fully appreciate the technical boundries that PM is exploring and I like the resulting music but the sound just seems so dead to me, dynamically flatlined. Having read a few interviews with PM I suspect that is the sound he was going for or have I missed the point?

Not been near a Beethoven Symphony for a while, so I thought it was time to enjoy the Eroica

Well, I was cleaning up the house with it on, so I will have to give it a better listen later. But I think it is a good follow up.

Never really been into Beck. Where should I start?

Hi Gordon,

This depends on what your music predilections are as each album is different but unmistakably Beck, so here's a rundown of the styles.... I cheated and nicked this from a post I wrote earlier this year but it does cover his styles. Now for me they are all great so its back to, depends what styles are high on your personal list.

"All of Becks albums have a different flavour my favorite is the Blues/Country vibed Mutations and the downbeat lost love of Sea Change. There is also the recent Latin influenced Guero and sixties throwback Modern Guilt. Also there is his first but really second album the rocky Mellow Gold (has his breakthrough track Loser on it) and then there's the second album thats actually his first an experimental Stereopathetic Soulmanure and of course there's his most famous album the Hip Hop themed Odelay and finally there's Midnight Vultures and One Foot In The Grave which I don't own and thats a crime for me being a huge Beck fan"

But if you cannot make up your mind I would go for either Modern Guilt, Mutations or Sea Change
