Johann Sebastian Bach: Marie-Claire Alain (Organ)
Volume 2:
Prelude and Fugue in F minor, BWV 534
Prelude and Fugue in E minor, BWV 533
Prelude and Fugue in C major, BWV 531
Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 538 "Dorian"
Fantasia and Fugue in C minor, BWV 537
Prelude and Fugue in D minor, BWV 539
Toccata and Fugue in F major, BWV 540
Prelude and Fugue in G major, BWV 541
Prelude and Fugue in A major, BWV 536
For the month or so Helmut Walcha, Peter Hurford, Karl Richter, and Werner Jacob have wondered where I've been? I've been getting familiar with the new neighbours in town, Marie-Claire Alain, Ton Koopman, and Simon Preston, who will be taking up residence right next to the old standbys.
It's a long process. Other than today, I generally will only listen to only one Prelude & Fugue, for instance, per day but will listen multiple times and compare the same with the other organists. Slowly, Walcha, Hurford & Richter are being brought into the mix for comparison.
I will never likely have a real pipe organ in my home, however, having great replay and recordings makes up for that. If their is only one argument needed to justify great recordings and the equipment to play it then this is it. Listening on my mac doesn't even come close. Feeling the pedals being played, air being pushed through the pipe, the floor rumble from a low c and most importantly overall having a very realistic representation of the real thing to listen to is very humbling yet gratifying.

Dear Doug,
I am just getting out these very recordings! MC Alain is a true Master of Bach's Organ music IMHO!
Even enjoyable - at least by me - on a system that in total could be bought three times for the cost of one Burndy!
ATB from George

Christophe - you've got to stop posting all this musical porn of the beautiful Helene Grimaud. It's no good for my blood pressure

I went to see her last year and she is so lovely

Sadly she seems to be ill for quite a while now and has had to cancel large parts of her concert repertoire this year

Do you like it Mark?

Bheki Mseleku - Celebration
Sadly no longer with us. I saw him live a couple of times but the best was in New York with Pharoah Sanders. Bheki did a great job of playing a mean piano and a great sax at the same time for the track Celebration.
