Adrian,

My miraculous search was very short lived. One disc of Zorn (Masada) was enough. Never went back to him.

I've been helping a friend out who keeps his music collection on a computer. Day one was 12 hours of Rick Wakeman, day 2 was German prog rock, day 3 (and 4 and 5) has been Slade. Luckily I've got tomorrow off.

Haim - Zorn has such a varied and huge back catalogue, if you strike in the wrong place then you can easily be put off.

Some of the Masada albums are great and some more challenging, say the Electric Masada. But it is his soundtracks I like best, full of melody and beauty - not some of the jarring free blowing he often undertakes.

The album above is quite melodic, with a feel of Philip Glass in places. Some of his other recent releases such as Alhambra Love Songs have been very lovely as well.

One of my most challenging and uncomfortable concert experiences was when I went to see John Zorn 18 months ago in Greenwich Village, NY with Lou Reed. It was a dreadful noise, both playing totally tuneless, ear piercing noise. I decided to save my eardrums and made a swift exit.

Sweet Talks - The Kusum Beat - 70's music from Ghana with a Kusum Beat

Sweet Talks were amongst the top five most popular bands in Ghana during the 1970s having recorded a string of hit albums. 'The Kusum Beat' was originally released in 1974 and became a household favourite with heavy emphasis on the 'Afro' through its traditional rhythms and motifs, blended together into a modern mix that combined highlife, funk and Afrobeat. Like a small handful of seminal Ghanaian albums, The Kusum Beat has stood the test of time and sounds as original and unique today as it did back in 1974.

Really like this. An album his Dad would be proud of if he had released it himself.
