Miles,
How would you rate this album? I am very impressed by her recent Brahms sonatas.
Cheers,
EJ

I've been a big Mutter fan ever since her HvK days, not really a weak one in the lot.

Haha, so let me rephrase: is this one for the fans only?

Nope, if you like Mendelssohn this is a very nice recording indeed.

After reading about this album on these here boards, and listening to it on Spotify, I've just received delivery of this beauty. Loving it to bits, wish I'd been there.

Since this is a family friendly forum I can't post the recordings that I buy for the cover only.

The Colour and the Shape. Of the many concerts I have been to, the first ten minutes of the Foo Fighters show I saw in Sydney a few years back was one of my favourite musical moments ever. True rock and roll hysteria. Storming.

On Spotify:-
Definitely a chip off. Not too bad, but I'll stick to dad I think.

I listened to the first couple of tracks today in the local record store. Sounded pretty nice. Is it a masterpiece in terms of her work?

Mirroring my experience with Zorn. A concert ended with me escaping (I had my father with me. Cough…) Zorn Must be the Bach or Mozart of today. His creativeness and bandwidth are just immense. Lots of the stuff he does is great. Lots is unbearable (for my ears). I agree on Adrian's film music assessment.

John Zorn - In Search of the Miraculous
Adrian,
My miraculous search was very short lived. One disc of Zorn (Masada) was enough. Never went back to him.
Haim - Zorn has such a varied and huge back catalogue, if you strike in the wrong place then you can easily be put off.
Some of the Masada albums are great and some more challenging, say the Electric Masada. But it is his soundtracks I like best, full of melody and beauty - not some of the jarring free blowing he often undertakes.
The album above is quite melodic, with a feel of Philip Glass in places. Some of his other recent releases such as Alhambra Love Songs have been very lovely as well.
One of my most challenging and uncomfortable concert experiences was when I went to see John Zorn 18 months ago in Greenwich Village, NY with Lou Reed. It was a dreadful noise, both playing totally tuneless, ear piercing noise. I decided to save my eardrums and made a swift exit.
