Surprisingly tuneless, given the title. I like it Winker.

couple of vinyl purchases from oxfam today, the first of which contains the cracking lines:

I'm tired of being held down
Tired of being yours
Get your hands out of my draws

Tried the Haden / Jones to honor Hank, but sounded dull and pathetic to me, so switching to this, which is much more inspired and cheerful. Like at a good memorial service…

RIP, Hank

Dick Gaughan - Handful of Earth

This is a contemporary guitar-based take (as of the 80s, for this album) on Celtic folk songs from the classic tradition.

I got this album after hearing some songs from Dick Gaughan's self titled album Gaughan.

Perhaps I was just in the right mood at the time I heard these (it was my introduction to Dick Gaughan), because, although the songs on Handful of Earth are excellent, and the guitar playing superb, I hesitate to admit it...I just don't like his voice much--the vowel sounds are so closed and nasal.

Which is a shame, because I really do want to like this. I'll persist, and perhaps be won over.

Have been listening to this a lot recently, and this has also contributed to me digging out old records by the Triffids, the Go-Betweens and the Church.
