I think this is his only straight ahead album. The track 'Haunted Heart' is simply magical.

Robert Schumann - Piano Music: Klára Würtz, Ronald Brautigam, Luba Edlina, Wolfram Schmitt-Leonardy, Mariana Izman, Peter Frankl

It is a bicentennial year of the birth of Robert Schumann. This is a good thing. Schumann is such a wonderful composer and any extra exposure or attention he can receive is welcome news to me. Get acquainted with the fantasy, poetry, and characterizations found in Schumann's works. For instance, Eusebius and Florestan are alter Egos of Schumann. Opposites in character but two sides of the same coin, you can hear these characters coming out everywhere.

I didn't expect to like this set as much as I do now after several listens. I didn't really know who Klára Würtz was but I really like her playing. It is very sensitive, detailed, and exciting. Ronald Brautigam's playing is very much similar to his latest Beethoven recordings - very energetic and full of life. All in all, a nice addition to my need to have more of the piano music of Robert Schumann.

Yes I Agree, Haunted Heart and track 7: Blue in Green (Miles Davis) are outstanding.

Doug,

Had to listen to some Schumann after your post. A selection of Kreisleriana op. 16 plus Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata No. 2 and Brahms Sonata No. 3.
