I don't think I've heard a bad CD from Perahia. He always seems to "get out of the way", and let the composer speak for himself (no doubt much more art is involved than that might suggest).

Are these Hybrid or Single Layer?
Pardon my ignorance Miles, but I have read every word on the CD material and nothing indicates either way...is there another way apart from those terms that it would be indicated somewhere?
If it does not mention 'Hybrid' anywhere than it is a single layer SACD. It might say somewhere 'plays on SACD players only'. On hybrids it would say 'plays on SACD and CD players'.
Thanks for looking.

According to the Linn-records website it is SACD, HDCD and CD, so hybrid and also the SACD layer is both 5.1 channel and 2-channel.

Tasty. Haven't listening to this for some time. Very memorable because it was recorded by Wynton at a time when he was at the vanguard of the jazz revival at the turn of the century.

I'm sure you will, this is one of the most exciting and enjoyable interpretations I have heard.

I know it's a favourite with many on this forum, and I think the performance is very good, but I struggle with Padmore's voice--I always return to Fischer-Dieskau and find the darker baritone timbres more suited to my winter journey.
And another gripe...does anyone else find the final "Mein Herz" of Die Post off-putting? Is it an editing splice that causes the momentary chorus effect?
Perhaps I'm oversensitive to such recording artefacts--but it feels it's a bit like watching an immersive historical film, and you suddenly notice a renaissance courtier wearing a wrist watch, or a tarmac medieval street: you're jolted out of the trance.

Fully agree with you, this is a nice recording but my go to version is Fischer-Dieskau.
