The remastered deluxe edition, and here is the problem:

On top is the original release, on the bottom the compressed remastered version. Eek

Indeed. Be careful if you have an international meeting at work because you will find yourself saying 'palace-stain'.. Big Grin

Also nice to see you enjoying "other people's stories". I have been a huge supporter of this album for years.

Dean,

I have the first pressings and only got this one for the unreleased songs on disc 2. I expected it to be compressed - sign of the times. Roll Eyes

Cheers ... Oliver

I would say better. I am used to Tibbetts recording multi layer tracks that build to a whole.

This album sounds like he recorded it in 24 tracks and then accidentally deleted 22 of them and is all the better for it.

There is an inherent danger within jazz of condeming any musical output which is seen as insipid or uneventful or unchallenging ( for example the recent ECM release 'Jasmine' of which I am guilty), but any one who has painted or written or played an instrument will know that brevity is difficult to achieve but extrememly powerful & desirable.

I like the new stripped down approach but then I also like Tibbetts earlier hyped up approach.

which are all perfect reasons for me to buy this. I have been curious for some time, and this made my decision. Thanks for the detailed answer. Many of it reflects my own thoughts (eg: simplicity being a desirable form)

cheers
