Haim,
That is in my rack just before the band I am playing now (see the Home Theatre threads) - but I will join you on this one for some late night listening.

(Isn't it wonderful that we can go from one genre to another and still fully appreciate it?).
Mark,
My genres usually change according to my wife's moods but basically remain within the triangle of classical, jazz and world music.
My actual genre now is:

Haim
Lovely Haim, one for tomorrow. Unfortunately (in the thoughts of being deflected elsewhere), I am taken over by an 80's obsession.
All the best.

quote:Doug,
I think that they are outstanding. I play at least one of their five discs per day so I am averaging a cycle a week.
I am also enjoying a lot the double album of Pires playing late Chopin works. Do you have her Nocturnes disc?
Regards,
Haim
Haim,
I'm glad you like the Beethoven Trios. I agree also about the latest Pires recording of Chopin; it is a wonderful recording. This album is actually what has precipitated my resurgence of listening to all the older recordings. I do have the Nocturnes as well as probably most of what she has recorded.

And now simply one of my all time favourite albums..........

Robert Schumann: Annerose Schmidt (Piano)
Phantasie for Piano in C major, Op. 17
Davidsbündlertänze for Piano, Op. 6
Kreisleriana, Op. 16
Humoreske for Piano in B flat major, Op. 20
Toccata for Piano in C major, Op. 7
Marches (4) for Piano, Op. 76: no 2 in G minor
Carnaval, Op. 9
Faschingsschwank aus Wien, Op. 26
Other than some issues I have with the recording quality, I can only offer my absolute praise for these recordings; the playing is fantastic! Recorded between 1973 and 1977, these three CD's offer some of the best Schumann playing and interpretations that I have heard so I'm glad I took a chance on them. Schumann's alter egos, Florestan and Eusebius show up here in spades and her juxtaposition of the two seem very related, natural, and convincing. In general, very characterful playing with lots of imagination and push and pull. With only three discs this is hardly complete Schumann. I would have loved to hear Schmidt playing the Symphonische Etüden or the Sonatas, for instance.

Lucky you - I had the chance to see them in Warrington in the early 90's and I blew it. Big regret.
