A new arrival, a three CDs box. The first disc is Hersch's compositions, the second is jazz tunes and the third is music of Cole Porter.

It's getting a very special Black Stuff treatment and sharing the June29th release as it's polar opposite: Blu Ray Audio Both Versions come with bonus download content.

Gabriel Fauré: Jean-Philippe Collard (Piano)
13 Nocturnes for Piano

If you happen to like 19th century piano music and really enjoy Chopin Nocturnes, late Liszt, Debussy, for example, I would highly recommend that you give Fauré's Nocturnes a listen. Once familiar with these pieces, I'll bet you'd be hooked for life as I am. Written over a period of 40 years, the earlier Nocturnes tend to be slightly more romantic in nature (but not in a Chopin way), leading into the later ones that are more sparse and display some obvious dissonance. Maybe this is similar to much of Franz Liszt's later, third period.

Fauré just has this uncanny way of seeming very distant for a time and then he surprises you with the most wonderful ideas with a richness in straightforward tone and melodies. It is really unexplainable to me why this music isn't heard in the mainstream often as to me it is very rich music to listen to on a rainy day.

In the car, on the way to work. For someone in their teens ( I think) when this was recorded, very impressive blues. Sounds abit like Jonny Lang?

Let's hope this will not be the last time Stu / Munch will get to play it before an England match for the 2010 world cup! Winker
