Earlier tonight:

Lauren Kinhan's latest album: 'Avalon'. She's better known as 1/4 of the New York Voices.

A nice eclectic mix of adult contemporary pop with large doses of jazz, Latin influences, horns and strings.

I just compared one track with the DAD 96/24 version from Classic Records I have as well.I have both discs ripped to PC and listened over PC Harman & Kardon speakers. (Will do the test later again on my Naim setup, 'cause I can't do it right now).

The sound quality of the XRCD24 is just as good as the 96/24 HiRes version. I prefered the XRCD24 by a nudge. I think this might be due to the remastering, I prefered the slightly more clear, slightly more forward and dynamic sounding drums on the XRCD.

I think it is wonderfull that a 16-bit CD can sound as wonderfull as the 96/24 DVD-Audio.
For me this means there could be a whole new future awaiting the CD-format.

This means however I have to open my wallet a little further to purchase the rest of the Audio Wave series as well. Big Grin

I can now confirm a clear difference in both recordings due to remastering, the Naim kit reveals so much more.

The drums have indeed been brought forward much more and also overall the bass notes have been lifted somewhat.

The sound quality, detail and soundstage of the XRCD24 is just as good as the 96/24 high res DVD-audio recording.

And I definately like the Alan Yoshida remastering more than the DVD-audio recording.

It is truly wonderful CD. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!!!

Curtis has been recording Handel operas for various labels, and is finally getting around to some of the masterpieces - Rodelinda, Alcina and next year, Ariodante. He can be a bit too well-behaved for my taste, but in Alcina, he's pretty lively. The singers here are all great, first among them Mrs. DiDonato as Alcina (a soprano part).

This strikes me as pretty but forgettable - Curtis has some wonderful singers at his disposal but just goes through the motions. With this low level of intensity, it's hard to judge the quality of the music.
