Amerikana is the first of three EP releases that are download only. An album containing the three EP's, plus extra tracks will be released late 2010 / early 2011.
This is an unexpected 'Country' influenced production from Thomas and the follow up's should be an intersting journey.
The EP download is 250kbps and sounds surprisingly good when burnt to CD. Most important is that the music communicates!
This could make an interesting experiment for you nDAC owners to try a shoot out of the USB ports and CD.
It would be good if Doug adds 17 Hills to the nDAC / Ovator demo's, thus enhancing his eclectic repertoire

Three recent purchases:
I tried twice to like this, but haven't been successful, so far. Just a few minutes ago, I again aborted a listen to it, in favour of:
which I find fabulous. A wanderer between classical, Jazz and improvisation with his ACT debut recorded in the great Schloss Elmau. Intimate, intelligent pieces without the need to show off.
Earlier, it was
which is also a clear win for my collection. Zelia, after the painful loss of Rosanna - her partner for music (and life, if I am right) has managed to pick up the (musical) pieces without producing a sobbing "in memory" CD. I am full of respect, sympathy and joy, when I hear this. Music can do so much…
cheers
Stefan

I wasn't going to buy this but Stefan's enthusiasm convinced me. First listen and I'm not sure I'm feeling it yet, but will give it another try anon.
Stefan - that Sendecki piano CD looks interesting; will certainly add it to my wish list.

Great album - it's been too long since I last played it!

I can fully understand doubts. This music is more on the emotional than on the intellectual side (which is absolutely not a bad thing). Very mood dependent, and with a tendency to be better when played loud…
cheers

Johann Sebastian Bach: Hélène Grimaud (Piano)
Currently right on the centerpiece of this album: the Busoni arrangement of the Chaconne from the Violin Partita no. 2, BWV 1004 in d minor. Simply divine.
I really do not think it is a mere coincidence that this album rests firmly in music of minor keys. The order in which they are presented is important to note, too. Bach's WTC, in particular, are really the first place to start in a study of how key and character relate. To me the sense of the keys is palpable as Grimaud leads us through C minor (determined, dramatic, fateful), C sharp minor (dark, sad, meloncholy), D minor (unrelenting, dynamic, wild, kinetic), A minor (chromatic, restless, impulsive), and then finally she releases with E major (light, airy, innocent, affirming).

Debs! Don't rub it in! There are millions of very unhappy people in England just now. I am not worried one way or the other, but ...
I was thinking of going out for a walk just now, but will instead leave the door safely bolted!
ATB from George
