Laurie Anderson - Homeland

Stone me, but this is a bleak and rather bitter record.

It's very good mind, but both times I've listened to it I haven't exaclty come out of it feeling all's well with the world. And yes, I know that's kind of the point but even so...

Having said that, there are some lovely moments and the arrangements, though sparse, are excellent.

Haim, do you have any of Fauré's piano music? I think you would really like some of the Nocturnes - especially the earlier ones. Although, different from Chopin's, I think you might really like at least the earlier ones. The later ones are more sparse and remind me more of later Liszt.

I like them so much that I recently ordered a few other recordings played by Germaine Thyssens-Valentin, Sally Pinkas, Charles Owen. Eventually I'll pick up several others that are recommended. If you're interested stay tuned in a couple of weeks....

Doug,

I am not familiar with Faure's solo piano music. Here are three discs of him featuring piano music which I have:

Complete works for Cello & Piano - Peter Bruns & Roglit Ishay / Opus 111
Sonatas for Violin & Piano - Isabelle Faust & Florent Boffard / Harmonia mundi
Piano Quintets 1 & 2 - Peter Orth & Auryn Quartett / CPO

I am opened to suggestions.

Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle. Deep funk grooves.

Sergei Prokofiev: Yefim Bronfman (Piano)

Sonata for Piano no 2 in D minor, Op. 14
Sonata for Piano no 3 in A minor, Op. 28
Sonata for Piano no 5 in C major, Op. 38
Sonata for Piano no 9 in C major, Op. 103

Four of the nine finished Piano Sonatas. The most popular Sonatas being probably the War Sonatas (#6, 7, 8). But I truly love the early ones too and especially #2.

Why? Because it's brilliant! Terrific singer, Jim Keltner on drums, some guy named Ry Cooder on the guitar...
The songs are fantastic, especially "Too many cooks" "So fine" and "Get your lies straight" - what a guitar!

Also it sounds excellent.

Recommended.
