Liquid sound much appreciated in this heat of the night.

Kuma,

This forum has been Ramsey Lewis-less for a long time. We all depend on you.

Ha ha Haim.

Funny, I am playing this right now.

Young Holt Unlimited : Soulful Strut
'68 Release. Brunswick Label. US Reissue. Stereo.
They were the drummer and basist for the Ramsey Lewis trio when they parted ways with Ramsey in the late 60s.

Red Holt can keep time even today.

Next up:

Ramsey Lewis: Solar Wind
'74 Release. Columbia Records. Original US pressing.

Richard Hawley - Richard Hawley

Typical lush sounding music & vocals from Richard.

Together with Eldee Young and a young Jeremy Monteiro, a virtuoso jazz pianist from Singapore, Red Holt and his friends brought the roof down at the Montreux Jazz Festival in the late 80s. This is the album that was recorded on that night:

This is a video clip of that performance:

I had forgotten how fantastic this sounds. Perfect synergy between Latin and Jazz styles. Such sweet singing and even sweeter soprano sax.

The lovely sounds of the sitar married with western music.

Irwan,
I saw both Holt and Young perform live last year.
Amazing performance!

They are soooo under-rated.

I'm sorry I've got to post this again. It arrived today & even though my 13 year old son thinks it's trash, I can't stop playing this album. Ike Quebec has to be one of the most soulful sax players I've ever heard IMHO.
Cheers

I recommend this show for streaming into your Home Cinema setup.

In just its third year, Daryl Hall’s monthly web show Live from Daryl’s House - Episode 32 has turned into a showcase for both legendary artists and newcomers alike, a place where they can collaborate in an atmosphere of mutual admiration and respect. This month’s edition of the Webby Award-winning series will feature a second annual retrospective of the past year’s best performances and guests all narrated by Daryl. The highlights include a medley with legendary Motown singer-songwriter Smokey Robinson, a live concert in Jamaica accompanied by reggae icon Toots Hibbert, a session alongside old Philly soulmate Todd Rundgren, a collaboration with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, as well as episodes touting newcomers such as promising tunesmith Diane Birch, emerging country star Jimmy Wayne and Boston bluesman Eli Paperboy Reed. The episode’s emotional peak comes with a tribute to T-Bone Wolk, the longtime musical director for Daryl Hall and John Oates, playing the appropriate “I Miss You.”

Debs you have mail. Glad to see you are enjoying those recordings.

The Jarre Amsterdam has one of my favourite keyboard solos, where he starts going wrong and carries on just getting worse, painful but great. The rest of the performance is excellent, and it is probably the best audience recording I have heard, better than many studio albums. I heard it on Lontano's system and was blown away by how good it is.

Just giving the Sun Kil Moon/Mark Kozelek a quick break to listen to some sports webcasts, then no doubt it be spinning in the player again.

On CD at moment..

A while ago I stated that "In Absentia" was PT's highpoint and everything that followed was a case of diminishing returns. Having listened to this twice over the last couple of days I've changed my mind, and reckon this is on a par at least with "In Absentia". Loving it.

Fourplay - Live in Cape Town
A live album, Blues4orce is a great song, wonderfull guitarsolo from Larry Carlton!
Posted on: 16 July 2010 by JamieL_v2

I decided to give this a spin, the 'Oxygene V' keyboard solo really brought Les Dawson at his best to mind, but with a Moog Liberation rather than a piano. Still wonderful.

Berend is that the DVD or is a CD available?
