A nice reminder of what I have not listened to in about a decade.![]()
Hi Irwan,
I very much enjoy the three discs I have by Steps Ahead. It is how I discovered Eliane Elias (the first disc), and Warren Bernhardt (on this disc), both wonderful pianists. And Mike Mainieri is probably my favorite vibes player.
Do you have a terrific CTI label disc called "Big Blues" under the title names of Jim Hall and Art Farmer ? Lineup is Jim Hall - guitar, Mike Mainieri - vibes, Art Farmer - flugelhorn, Steve Gadd -drums, and Mike Moore - bass. Great great release from about 1979.
regards,
Jeff A

Very nice Jeff! Will have to put this on my wish list. There is a reviewer on Amazon who recommends the gold disc edition as being the ultimate version. Which edition have you got?
Standard cd release, it is good and I am a fan of Ron Carter. McCoy Tyner is not among my favorite piano players, but I enjoy having this.

Stunningly beautiful voice. I have put a couple of his albums in my Amazon shopping cart. Thanks for introducing another great singer / musician.

Thanks Jeff. I love both of them. McCoy Tyner is one of my favourite piano players. Ron Carter has such nice 'phat' tones from his double bass. Not the virtuoso double bass player like John Patitucci or Christian McBride, but really nice to hear in the background. Strangely, one of my favourite Ron Carter sessions is his role in the rhythm section of George Benson's album 'Tenderly'. Just love the way he keeps the groove with those lovely 'phat' lines.

I wouldn't call myself the biggest Peter Gabriel fan ( ducks for cover) but this album is outstanding.

Will try to catch him if he is ever in Malaysia. I he is performing in Perth, I will consider flying down under as it is only five hours away, and I also have some family there.
Thanks for the video link.

Fantastic on vinyl. Any CD edition which can give the vinyl edition a run for its money?

This is the Japanese First Pressing, which sounds very good but the MoFi is my favourite on CD. For Gaucho it would be the SACD.

Thanks Oliver. You and quite a few other senior members here are like walking databases!

I purchased a re-mastered edition on CD when I was in Oz a couple of years ago and found the sound to be a little bright!

Thank you Adrian.
How do you find time to work for a living, raise a family, sustain a marriage, listen to music and still stay on top of upcoming gigs..seriously, if your main job ever falls through you should consider giving time management lessons..

PS- she is playing the same venue where I recently saw the soon to be national treasure Claire Teal.
