On Friday night on BBC4, Paul Lewis performed Beethoven Piano Concertos 1 and 4 live from the Proms. It was a truly stunning, elegant and beautiful performance. I really like what this guy does. It is on the iplayer for the next few days and well worth watching. He plays Piano Concerto no 2 this Thursday again to be broadcast on BBC4. I personally think that he is one of the best pianists I have seen.

So rotating non stop on the iphone, in the car and on the main system is this lovely boxset.

Another fine version of Kodály's cello music - one for you Haim, if you don't already have it.

The last two of Schumann's violin sonatas are supposedly not amongst his best works - plenty of good reading on the possible reasons for this on the web - but I'm not so sure anymore after listening to this early recording by Isabelle Faust and Silke Avenhaus.

I purchased this disc in anticipation of and to compare with the new recording by Ilya Gringolts.
