"Lucia di Lammermoor", Joan Sutherland, 1971. Side by side, the 1985 and 2009 masterings. Night and day difference. Sound-wise, the old edition sounds strident and unnatural compared to the more detailed, smoother and more natural update.

In terms of packaging, the new edition focuses squarely on La Stupenda - disappointingly, not a single picture of Pav, Milnes, Ghiaurov or Bonynge while this recording can be considered a career highlight for all involved.

How many CDs?
It's a great 5 LP (40 tracks) box set.
