Taken by Trees - East of Eden

Posted on: 01 August 2010 by EJS

Sainte Colombe (ca 1640-1700) was one of the founding fathers of the bass viol or viola da gamba, and probably most famous as a teacher of Marin Marais. This unique CD with music for two gambas by Wieland Kuijken and Jordi Savall was recorded in 1976, and has aged a bit (low tempi, sparse embellishments) but there's still not much to compare it to. Highly recommended!

I have a copy of the cd they sold only off their web site which had tracks taken from dates on the Road Apples tour with a couple of tracks that have never made it on to any album of theirs. One of them called Highway Girl has a monologue in the middle that Gordon turned into Locked Up in the Trunk for Fully Completely album.

It's called Roxy & Elsewhere (Road Apples Session and Tour 1990- 1991) if you ever see it then don't hesitate it is a brilliant live album.
