Still regarded as a benchmark, for late Beethoven and for Pollini. The original CD mastering was crap, but sound quality improved enormously with this edition.

The original limited 2 cd edition of John Grant's 'Queen of Denmark' is still available from the Bella Union website at £10.99 should you fancy it.
A cracking album.

Tosca is a great opera filled with obsessed characters who sing some of the most golden music ever composed. Both Cavaradossi and Tosca, the 'romantic interests', only think of themselves. Scarpia is the evil officer of police, of the type that spends his time cackling or playing organ and thinking world domination. It doesn't make sense, but it's enjoyable like a popcorn action movie with high production values. Listening to this recording, I get the feeling that Giuseppe Sinopoli & co clearly were on the same brain wave. Highly recommended as one of the most exciting and good sounding Tosca's ever recorded!

Loving it all. (And to think, I didn't particularly warm to the Phantom Limb and Antonio to begin with!!)

Overall if you like his stuff you will probably enjoy it. As I do not have a lot of his back catalogue, I would welcome any suggestions of what else to get. I will probably pick up a copy of his autobiography at the same time. His life sounds pretty interesting, and on stage he came across as someone I would like to find out more about.

Early work as part of PiL is good and I have just transfered the 12" single "How Much Are They" into iTunes.
Most of the early stuff is probably only in the black stuff.
Jono
Jono,
Thanks. I've got my original copy of Metal Box on vinyl and PIL's greatest hits on CD, I was thinking more of his prodigious output as a solo artist, any thoughts?.

Nic
