a great acoustic blues album.

Time for some blues now, and a large glass of the red stuff.

My favourite Charles Lloyd - marvellous.

Adrian, Stefan (or anyone else)...

This is the only Charles Lloyd I have, but I struggle to get into it:

Are "Hyperion" or "Big Sur" significantly different? The "Mirror" video sounded interesting, so I think I should give him another chance.

John Zorn - Music for Children

My second Zorn album. It's great. A daunting back catalogue cslls...

Not one I have - is it new? - you have to tread carefully. Spotify will be your best friend here! Loads of them on there from filmworks through masada. Interesting stuff.

I will need to reacquaint myself with Lift Every Voice first. But I would be very surprised if yo did not like Notes from Big Sur - lovely sax with piano (Bobo Stenson), bass and drums

No, not new, as the CD I have is described as a tenth anniversary edition. It's a mixture of lovely celeste based compositions, intercut with very short hardcore mash-ups and a twenty minute track featuring three wind machines, and Lou Reed supplying guitar feedback. An interesting listen, to put it mildly!

Nigel,
musically, Llyod has quite a bandwidth in quality of performance. Sometimes a bit "trivial", sometimes a bit "esoteric". What makes me like him, is that he never gave up playing and looking for new horizons - which he found in other continents or cultures. In his "old age" phase, he harvests all this and - not always successfully - mixes his musical life with more contemporary co-players. That is what interests me in him. Others may find this boring. Fair enough.

just my 0,5 cents…

Enough to put me off, as I went to see Lou and Zorn in New York a couple of years ago doing feedback (exclusively). My poor eardrums, I had to leave. I will try the disc though.
