1969 Grammy for Best Jazz Album

On the original elpee it says Maureen played drums, which she definitely didn't, but it made Loaded seem more velvety. I always detested I Found a Reason on the original version, but on the alternative Lou version it is a classic.quote:Originally posted by Whizzkid:
Can this album be bettered, I DON'T THINK SO, unless its another album by the Velvets.
Dean...
Very insightful, now I'll have to play this album again.

A fine album indeed! I was unaware that it had won a Grammy.
I've recently been listening to 'Turn Out The Stars', a 6CD set of Bill Evans' final recordings at the Village Vanguard.

There are many familiar numbers of this multi-disc set but they are taken to the boundaries by the final Bill Evans Trio. The version of 'Nardis' is just amazing!
Amazon offer the whole 6CD set in MP3 format for £17.49. The discs will cost you £161.49!

This was recently rereleased on CD as the out of print versions were commanding high prices. You can now pick it up for £30 ish at amazon...

I would urge people to buy it if it can be had for around £30. Easy listening it isn not but it features some of the most inventive trio playing that I have ever heard.
It does not feature any plinky-plonk piano! (I still love that description of some audiophile CDs!)

Can't get enough of this. The emotional pain, anger and bitterness in the lyrics and music of the title track is quite something.

Joni Mitchell 'Ladies of the Canyon' and 'Wembley 1983' (BBC FM Radio broadcast).
The latter has amazing versions of 'Woodstock', 'Amelia' and 'God Must be a Boogie Man', but they slaughter 'Song for Sharon' by playing it as a MOR American rock track.
The I.E.M. box has just arrived, but am engrossed with the cricket at the moment, Pakistan are bowling brilliantly. England's 3,4 & 5 all out for ducks this morning, the first time ever for an England team. Down to great bowling, apart from a waft from Pietersen (Dumb Slog Millionaire).

I have to agree. I have had to give it a break for now as I was in danger of wearing it out and that I do not want to do! I will start putting it on rotation again soon.

Good stuff. I am going to go and watch the Lashings World X1 play my local team this afternoon. A nice drink, comfy chair, good music and some (ex) world class cricket should be good. I might spin all the I.E.M's whilst there.
