It's a great sounding place for a gig and beautiful when you look over the empty stage to see Denver in the background. I was over visiting some friends in Denver who worked for KCNC Televsion in 84 and saw Emmylou Harris there.

Looks like we have a "theme" for the day.... Smile

Anyone else been to Red Rocks? What artists? Stories?

I was told a story by a long time resident of the area about sneaking up on the tall stone pillars to see Louis Armstong perform there. Talk about surreal....

I highly recommend seeing a good performance there. It's an amazing place, both environmentally and sonically. It sounds like it looks....intimate, open, solid and tight. Going to rock concerts is not my favorite thing to do, even bands I like, but Red Rocks is different. It's a magical place.

The evening that Radiohead played there in 2001 was a wonderful show. A huge rain and hail storm hit the area and closed the Denver airport for days, but the storm missed Red Rocks. Because of the wind, they removed the backdrop and allowed just the big, rust colored rocks to be the background. The whole time we could see the Denver area getting pounded by the storm, but Red Rocks was in a vacuum that night, and Radiohead provided plenty of oxygen. Winker
I bet it was great.
The place does have a great back drop.
My son was part of Radioheads road crew just after 9-11.It took hours to get there kit through customs to fly it to the usa.
Now this for the first time in over a year or two. Winker

I remember watching "Under The Blood Red Sky" on video in 84-85 and seeing those huge flames all around, but I've never seen any kind of fire or flames when I was there. I wonder if the flames were just for U2, or was it deemed too dangerous to have and was done away with? Anyone know?

BTW, that long Springsteen story is something I'm sure some of us would like to hear. Winker

E,
Did you make a good job of it?

Being honest need to redo it as it has been awhile since I last listened to it. Needs more bottom end.

It and a whole load of Ryans shows and demos have been in boxes stashed away for sometime and I haven't played them for ages.

Heliodor LP (p) 1969, (c) 1974

The Beaux Arts Trio with Samuel Rhodes and Georg Hortnagel take First Prize for the biggest catch, and a very nice touch to end with two delightful minutes of “Die Forelle” just to unwind from a playful fishing trip.
The Schubert Quartet gave an appealing cat-gut warmth but Jorg Demus’s clanky piano probably frightened the fish away. I know Jorg Demus can play well as a pianist but on this recording he could have been playing with his elbows.
However, the bargain Heliodor LP redeems itself finally with a nice chubby Mozart Divertimento… bliss! : )
