Not one of my Evans favorites. Too much drums work for my taste.

I was late to this one, but when I did discover it (late 2009) it became an instant classic. I don't know much about the "genre", and I've had younger people explain it to me, but I still don't get it. All I know is that it's a truly original album. Under all that glitch, is some great soul.

Funny, I just spotted the Jarrett connection after thinking to myself, "Damn, this pianist's good!".

I also like the fact Lloyd plays flute as well as sax, and am wondering if there are any other jazz flutists of note (Eric Dolphy's the other obvious example, I guess).

Edit 1 - I just found this link:

100 Greatest Jazz Flutists

Edit 2 - But I'm still wondering if the flute has found much favour in the European jazz scene?

Been enjoying Dylan's Together Thru Life and now CSN 1st album, great musicianship. One more before I go to a friends for Labor Day open house and then south to my folks.

For Ballan, maybe Flettster, and anyone who's given up waiting for Burial's remix of the whole of Heligoland appearing any time soon, for a 2010 update on his sound, try:

On Hot Flush Recordings, one of my favourite labels just now, and home also to the clubbier Joy Orbison and the slicker-sounding Mount Kimbie. Just released, Mount Kimbie's Crooks & Lovers is great, slowed-down narcotic house, with an obvious dubstep influence.

And, staying with recent releases, if you don't know them already, 2562's Unbalance, Martyn's Great Lengths, and F's Energy Distortion are all excellent updates on this kind of thing, with a mix of dubstep/tech house that I really like.

All highly recommended (late-night) listening.

I can't think of any immediately but Peter Gabriel was a mean flute player back in the day Winker
