Any good, Adrian? I ordered it along with the new Anat Ford, on the strength of a favourable Gurdian review.

It is good but no as "easy" on the ear as the Anat Fort, which is a lovely album.

... just pre-ordered this one ...

Another beautiful chamber music disc of Handel.

From the above, and featuring Animal Collective's Noah Lennox on vocals, here's one of my favourite tunes of the year:

Chief,
Heard this on vinyl Friday night also.

Love it.

Cool. I've always given them a wide berth, myself. Probably completely wrong, but for some reason, Banco de Gaia always make me think of beach parties and hippies with dogs on strings, that kind of thing. Heh heh.

Jeff,
Great album.
I hope one day you can get to hear the vinyl on a top spec LP12?
Stu

It is a great album I listen to too infrequently and a reminder of a great show I saw when they toured before its release.

Hope you are doing well, Stu.

Jeff,

Stu, this is the one I have had for a year or two and I like it equally to Post-War. M. Ward is just a bit strange, off the beaten path, and then the next thing you know, he just sucks you right into the music. Tons of influences bubble over in his work. I am pleased to now be able to listen to him twice as often. Thanks.

The ache in Caroline Herring's voice evokes blue-veined mountains, red soil, box socials, and Sunday porch-singing, and she doesn't shy away from gritty lyrical matter, like the true story of a mother who drowns her children, or the tarnished history of slavery in her native south. In a word, she is authentic, a true proponent of the Americana form. This 2008 release, her third, mines all the varieties of trad folk, including tangy country-blues and murder ballads. The artist's lovely voice and acoustic guitar playing are supplemented by violins, steel guitar, and mandolin, arranged tastefully around the simple but haunting songs.
